Philips TVs are now owned and operated by a Chinese company, though the brand’s history is famously Dutch.
While the “Philips” name still carries its heritage from the Netherlands, the television business underwent a major shift over a decade ago.
The Ownership Shift
TPV Technology: The Philips TV brand is currently owned and operated by TPV Technology, a major electronics manufacturer headquartered in Hong Kong.
TPV Technology is primarily controlled by the China Electronics Corporation (CEC), a large state-owned enterprise (SOE) overseen by the Chinese central government.
TP Vision: TPV operates the TV business through a subsidiary called TP Vision, which is based in Amsterdam. This keeps the design and marketing “European” in feel, even though the parent company and manufacturing backbone are Chinese.
